Assumpta Community, Ilogbo Community…
Ilogbo Region

Assumpta Community,

Ilogbo,

Ogun State.

ASSUMPTA COMMUNITY, A GROWING SEED IN ILOGBO

Assumpta community is like a seed which keeps growing with a sure hope towards the standard of the creator’s desire.

The community was opened on the 4th of August 2008 with three (3) Daughters of the Holy Spirit.  They began with eighteen (18) pupils learning in the same building.  However they were able to manage the challengeable situation till other solution emerged.

SOME SIGNIFICANT EVENTS

  • The opening of the permanent site of the Holy Spirit Catholic Nursery/Primary School pupils which took place on 19th September, 2008.

  • The relocation to the permanent site of Assumpta community on 2nd October 2010.  An event presided over by the then Bishop of Abeokuta Diocese (Adewale Martins) priests and other dignitaries including the Kabiyesi of Ilogbo.

  • The foundation of Marie Balavenne Catholic College (a boarding school for both boys and girls of all faith.  An event which took place on September 2011 with twenty-two students.

SOME LIVED CHALLENGES

Challenges we have encountered so far include:

  • Bad roads
  • The school is within commuting distance for pupils
  • Lack of power supply which makes the use of electrical appliances unrealistic
  • Negative attitude towards work by some indigenes
  • High cost of living of some families which causes the withdrawal of some pupils and students from our schools.
  • Inadequate privacy and silence due to the accommodation of some students in the same building.

AREAS OF ACHIEVEMENT

Both pupils and students are benefiting in the course of their training in the following ways:

  • Moral upbringing
  • Self-actualization
  • Sense of purpose in life
  • Sense of duty and responsibility
  • Self discipline
  • Respect for human dignity.

APOSTOLATE

Our lived charism helps us to share and partage in the local church in the following ways.

  • Catechism teaching to both children and adults
  • Empowerment of organizations such as catholic youth organization (CYON), Catholic women organization (CWO) and the Choir.
  • Conducting of marriage course.

Moreover, this period has been a period of both personal and collective reflection and thanksgiving to GOD.  We are most grateful to God for all He has accomplished so far in our congregation through the power of His Spirit during this period of 50 YEARS.  At this point, what can we say to HIM?  All we have to say is thank you GOD, a dupe, imela, nagode, sosoyo… Avoo.

The community has two major missions at

1. Holy Spirit Catholic Nursery and Primary School, Ilogbo and

 2. Marie Balavenne Catholic College, Ilogbo
