Holy Spirit Vice-Provincial House Community…
Osogbo Region
Plot 26 Ilobu Road, G.R.A. P.O.Box 1891, Osogbo 230 101, Osun State. WELCOME TO THE DAUGHTERS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT VICE-PROVINCIAL HOUSE COMMUNITY
OUR MISSION The Daughters of the Holy Spirit Vice- Provincial House in Osogbo came to birth in the year 2000. The sisters living in the Vice-Provincial House receive the mission to build a “House of Charity” where all are welcome. This ministry of presence fosters a space of openness, receptivity and support for the Sisters of the Vice- Province and all others who knock at the door.
The Vice-Provincial House is a Centre for communication and animation within the Nigerian Vice-Province in collaboration with the local Church. The Vice-Provincial, assisted by her staff, facilitates an ongoing link with other Units of the Congregation in different countries. This administrative service is vital to the well-being of the Sisters and the vitality of the Mission entrusted to us as a Congregation.
OUR GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT This “house of charity” has witnessed ongoing development since its inception. Being a centre of empowerment for our Sisters, the fostering of leadership has been and continues to be a strong focus. By involving some of the younger Nigerian Sisters early on to become members of an Extended Vice-Provincial Council, and then, appointment to the Vice Provincial Council itself, successive Vice Provincial leadership teams promoted a training experience in consultation and reflection on important issues facing a young Vice Province. Care was taken to prepare these Sisters and others to become Heads of Institutes and to take on the charge of Religious Formation in order to build a solid foundation for Religious Life. The moment of handing over the life and mission of the Vice-Province to a totally Nigerian leadership in 2007 was an event filled with awe and hope.
The Vice Provincial House Community is privileged to welcome and accommodate our successive International Leadership Teams in the Congregation who have regularly spent time in the Vice Province. Their presence and spirit have helped to awaken in us the sense of belonging to a larger Religious Family, inspiring us in the way of simplicity, caring, and the sharing of our resources, “so that all may have life to the full”.
As our numbers grow, many more Sisters come in and out of this house for communication regarding the happenings going on in our various mission places, for proper accountability, for meetings, and for accommodation. This presents opportunities for interaction, for updating, for praying and for searching together the way forward.
DEVELOPMENT IN OUR ENVIRONMENT In remembering our beginnings, ours was the only house standing in the middle of the bush, along a rough road. The surroundings that strike the eye today while one is travelling along a tarred road, are huge mansion-like homes at various stages of being built. There has been a shift from silence to greater noise, and from rough roads to tarred roads that include bumps to slow down traffic. We are truly inserted among a developing people. And it is in the midst of this development that we see the Spirit longing to breathe anew God’s Word of love and peace.
