PENTECOST time is a very important time. For us Daughters of the Holy Spirit, It is a feast we look forward to each year and we observe it with a heart full of Joy. It is a time of renewal; it is a time of prayer.
...And so, they shall regard the feast of Pentecost as the principal feast of their House, and in order to prepare themselves to receive the Holy Spirit on that day, as also to celebrate the feast in a fitting manner, they shall observe a strict fast on its vigil, remaining in silence and retreat till after communion on the following day... Rule of Taden Article 1.
The entire family of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit all over the world celebrated this year’s Pentecost. In the Nigerian Vice province, some of the communities share their experiences as follows:
DAUGHTERS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
Pentecost 2015 at Assumpta community, Ilogbo, Pentecost for us Daughters of the Holy Spirit is one of the principal feasts of our Congregation. For us at Assumpta community, llogbo, in preparation for this year’s feast, we had a nine day novena, at the end of the novena; we had a prayer section with reflection on the Pentecost letter from Sr Anne Marie Foucher, our superior general. On Pentecost Sunday, we went in pairs like the seven two disciples sent by Jesus Christ to different parishes and churches where we worship, to renew our vows of chastity, poverty and obedience before God and his people. Later on this feast day, we had another celebration which started fully as we joined our DHS sisters at Ota community with the priests who are collaborating with us in our apostolates and some few parishioners. It was a happy one.
PENTECOST CELEBRATION IN ILORA COMMUNITY ON 24TH, MAY 2015. In the morning of this beautiful day, the celebration began with the Eucharistic celebration and renewal of vows in the church. In the evening, the celebration continued with a Pentecost party as follows: Introduction/welcoming of the Master of Ceremony (M.C.), Rev. Sr Orji Alice DHS. Opening prayer by Bishop Emmanuel Adetoyese Badejo, the Catholic Bishop of Oyo Diocese. The Bishop Emeritus was in attendance (Most Revd Dr. Julius Babatunde Adelakun). About ten priests and two seminarians were present. The Srs in the community were Sr Grace Oladejo, Emiola Fakorede, Rita Oye and Alice Orji. Some of the priests supported us with some items. The celebration was well organized and full of fun. It was as if the whole diocese celebrated with the Sisters. Light-refreshment followed and while that was going on, riddles and jokes were also going on. Some of the riddles and jokes were:- 1. Identify the tribe which has highest score in phone call. (At the end, Yoruba had the highest scores). 2. A child told the meaning of his name by giving meaning to each letter and the name is Romanus). Also we had a game known as blind walk. It caused everybody to laugh to the extent of rolling on the floor. Moreover, everybody was given opportunity to take her or his choice from the different dishes provided. We enjoyed the meal in good atmosphere. The participants expressed their gratitude to the sisters for giving them the opportunity to witness to God’s love in their lives, and encouraged us to invite more people and organize such warm celebration next time. The Bishop summarized all that had been said in few words, “saying it is good to celebrate God’s love and his presence in our lives.” The celebration came to an end with Sr Emiola giving the vote of thanks. Fr Michael Falade said closing prayer and Bishop Badejo gave the final blessing.
